Gatsby Cha. 3 to 5

3- this chapter focuses on the gap between perception and reality. At the party, as he looks through Gatsby’s books, Owl Eyes states that Gatsby has captured the effect of theater, a kind of mingling of honesty and dishonesty that characterizes Gatsby’s approach to this dimension of his life. The party itself is a kind of elaborate theatricalpresentation, and Owl Eyes suggests that Gatsby’s whole life is merely a show, believing that even his books might not be real.

4- Jordan’s story paints Gatsby as a lovesick, innocent young soldier, desperatelytrying to win the woman of his dreams. Now that Gatsby is a full-fledged character in the novel, the bizarre inner conflict that enables Nick to feel such contradictoryadmiration and repulsion for him becomes fullyapparent—whereas Gatsby the lovesick soldier is an attractive figure, representative of hope and authenticity, Gatsby the crooked businessman, representative of greed and moral corruption, is not. This book contradicts itself alot and it bugs me. the narrator needs to make up his mind!! AHHHHHHHHHH!!!

5- Gatsby’s house is compared several times to that of a feudal lord, and his imported clothes, antiques, and luxuries all display a nostalgia for the lifestyle of a British aristocrat. Though Nick and Daisy are amazed and dazzled by Gatsby’s splendid possessions, a number of things in Nick’s narrative suggest that something is not right about this transplantation of an aristocrat’s lifestyle into democratic America. For example, Nick notes that the brewer who built the house in which Gatsby now lives tried to pay the neighboring villagers to have their roofs thatched, to complement the style of the mansion.

THIS BOOK BUGS ME SO MUCH!!! people need to make up their mindsabout who they are and their personalities.I know that this book isnt supposedto be all flatcharacters but it bugs me that everyonechanges from page to page. people need to stop changing so often without development!!! AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why I dont like other people to publicly be able to read my wirting

1. I do not like when other people can read my writing because people tend to criticize me less than helpfully. I only want people I trust to read my writing and most of them write better than I do. For example: Jenny Yeager, Brad Bond, Geoff Harmer, Randi Henkel, and Brenna Birt.

2. I fear that people will not actually be of any help when trying to help me improve my writing because they already have an idea of what I will sound like. I think its kind of dumb to have to share my writing in front of everyone when it is almost like judging at competitions when the judges have pretty much already decided what they are going to say. Everyone does it even if they, or a teacher, says that they aren't going to.

3. The best case scenario that would happen would be that i would be in a group of people whom i know will help my writing improve and that I know i can trust with my writing.

4. the worst thing that could happen is that i end up having to share in front of everyone or that the final draft would be due today because people are too reluctant to present in front of even the people whom they trust.

The Cold Makes Me Want To......

The cold makes me want to yell and go home and snuggle underneath my blankets in my room. The cold makes me want a venti white chocolate mocha while watching a movie  and munching on some popcorn.  I really dont like the cold. In fact, there are a lot of things i dont like but i dont have time to write about them because Mr. J is  making us stop writing.....grrrr

Writing Blog

I think that I need  to finish my thoughts and remember to use evidence to support what I am trying to say. I thing    one of my strengths is my ability to build on a central argument. The only issue is that I dont seem to support my argument with facts and resources. I think another thing that would be helpful would be to send the finished version to Mr. J instead of one of my unfinished drafts so organization is definitely going to be a key element in improving my writing skills. so yeah......

250 word response The Awakening

I found  this book really boring. I started reading the book the day break started while I was on my airplane ride to CA and I fell asleep within the first chapter. But ANYWAYS, the first few chapters were just an introduction to the novel but after a while, I started to get really irritated with Mr Pontellier because of the way he treated his wife. He acted as though she was only good for caring for the children, cooking, and cleaning. I found it EXTREMELY upsetting the way the men treated women because they treated them as material objects instead of people. It seems like Edna was almost scared to show her feelings about things because of the way men treated women. “How many years have I slept?” she inquired. “. . . A new race of beings must have sprung up, leaving only you and me as past relics.”  This quote  is an example of the revolution that occured during the time and the changes that made a difference upon the way women are treated.
